“Th’ abuse of greatness is when it disjoins
Remorse from power.” – Julius Caesar
Remorse, intellect, empathy, patience. Remove all the basic traits of adulthood, and you’ll get a pathetic abuse of power, as we’ve seen. Sad!

“I say again there is no English soul
More stronger to direct you than yourself;
If with the sap of reason you would quench,
Or but allay the fire of passion.” – Henry VIII
He is his own worst enemy.

Sands: “If I chance to talk a little wild, forgive me; I had it from my father.”
Anne: “Was he mad, sir?”
Sands: “O, very mad, exceeding mad.” – Henry VIII
Like father, like son.

“There’s not one wise man among twenty that will praise himself.” – Much Ado About Nothing
Further proof that Trump is anything but wise; if any more were needed…

“Sir, they have committed false report;
moreover, they have spoken untruths;
secondarily, they are slanders;
sixth and lastly, they have belied a lady;
thirdly, they have verified unjust things;
and to conclude, they are lying knaves.” – Much Ado About Nothing
If only this were as funny as it is in the play. Unfortunately, it is not.

“How, how, how, how, chopped-logic?” – Romeo and Juliet
Trump’s statements are not just confounding and illogical, they are downright disorienting to anyone living in the real, factual world.

“That unlettered small-knowing soul.” – Love’s Labor’s Lost
Trump’s profound ignorance is on display nearly every day.

“My lord, we have
Stood here observing him. Some strange commotion
Is in his brain. He bites his lip, and starts,
Stops on a sudden, looks upon the ground,
Then lays his finger on his temple; straight
Springs out into fast gait, then stops again,
Strikes his breast hard, and anon he casts
His eye against the moon. In most strange postures
We have seen him set himself.” – Henry VIII
Trump is unhinged, to say the least.

“How tartly that gentleman looks! I never can
see him but I am heartburned an hour after.” – Much Ado About Nothing
Two upfront apologies: 1) I’ve begun reading Much Ado About Nothing this week, so I may have a plethora of quotes from just that one play in coming posts, 2) I’ve showed restraint up until now, but there really are a ton of Shakespeare quotes that could apply to Donald Trump. I may just give in in future weeks and start publishing them one after the other. Leave it to Beatrice in Much Ado to start us off – I love that woman!
