No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

March 26th, 2015 → 6:16 am

“If one good deed in all my life I did,
I do repent it from my very soul.”  – Titus Andronicus

Apparently “No good deed goes unpunished,” was true in Shakespeare’s time as well!

Shoes and Socks?

“Thoughts of great value, worthy cogitations.” – Julius Caesar

My husband isn’t a big talker, but every once in awhile he says something out of the blue that makes me laugh.  Yesterday, in getting our son dressed to go on a playdate he yelled, “Put on your shoes and socks!”  and then turned to me and asked, “Why is it ‘shoes and socks,’ and not ‘socks and shoes?’  Wouldn’t ‘socks and shoes’ make more sense?”  🙂  Ha ha, um, yes.

“‘Tis an ill cook that cannot lick his own fingers.” – Romeo and Juliet

Sweet lovers love the spring.”  – As You Like It

Yesterday was sunny and beautiful.  It’s coming, I can feel it, it’s almost here, I can’t wait…Springtime!!

The “Science” Behind Misogyny

March 12th, 2015 → 5:19 am

“Mere prattle without [evidence].” – Othello

Yesterday the New York Times published an article perpetuating the common misogynistic trope that women are innately stupider than men.  It makes me crazy.  That such arguments are still being said – and published in such respected outlets! – so nonchalantly shocks me.  At least, my comment pointing out the ridiculousness of the argument was made a NYT Pick and through most of the day yesterday was the number one Reader’s Pick as well.  At least some (maybe a lot of?) people out there do get it.

47 G.O.P. Senators

March 11th, 2015 → 5:18 am

“A nest of traitors!” – Winter’s Tale

Let me just state the obvious:  if a group of Democratic senators had gone around a Republican president and sent a foreign leader a letter in an effort to undermine said Republican president, the conservative Right would have called those Democratic senators traitors.  And I would have sympathized.  As it happens, it was the other way around this week.  And I’ll call it what it is – treason.

TOS on #ConversationsLIVE

March 4th, 2015 → 9:46 pm

Had a great half an hour live radio interview with Cyrus Webb on #ConversationsLIVE earlier this evening.  We talked about The Other Shakespeare, women’s history month, family, relationships, love, life, and so much more.  Not to ruin it for the cities its coming to in the next few days (North Carolina this weekend, Atlanta on Monday…), but you can check it out now as a podcast.  And thank you again for the wonderful conversation Cyrus Webb!
