“Who is man that is not angry?” – Timon of Athens

First it was the Tea Party, now it’s Occupy Wall Street, it appears that a new protest movement gains steam in the U.S. every couple of years.  It’s sad that so many people are so unhappy right now.  Although at least our democracy is working.

Given the relative stagnancy of our (effectively) two-party system, I’m not sure I’d agree that our democracy is working. That said, I am glad that people are making their voices heard; it’s just too bad more impact isn’t being seen in voter turnout.

To borrow a line from an old friend, “Yelling about a problem doesn’t mean you’re engaged in finding a solution; it just means you’re being loud enough to be heard.” Oftentimes an important step, but I don’t think it’s the only step that needs to be made.

Very true. You know, right after I put up that post I thought about how I hadn’t quite phrased it right. I certainly didn’t mean to argue that our government was working well, only that the ability to protest and demonstrate seemed to still be alive in this country. And at least that’s something, if only a step, as you point out.
