Music & the Grammys

February 13th, 2012 → 6:18 am

“Orpheus with his lute made trees,
And the mountain tops that freeze,
Bow themselves when he did sing…In sweet music is such art,
Killing care and grief of heart.  – Henry VIII

Music is also a good way to lift the heart.  A nod to Adele, the Grammys, and of course, to poor Whitney Houston.

Nancy Brinker, CEO Susan G. Komen for the Cure

February 5th, 2012 → 8:45 am

“Zounds!  I was never so bethumped with words.” – King John

Nancy Brinker, founder and chief executive of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, has changed her story repeatedly over the last few days as to why the group didn’t want to give funds to Planned Parenthood.  It’s all been a bit ridiculous.  A few years ago I stopped giving money to Susan G. Komen for the Cure when I found out how little money actually went to cancer reduction efforts (as opposed to administrators and lawyers).  This just confirms for me that there are better places for my donations.

This Crazy Winter Weather

January 14th, 2012 → 7:00 am

“Cold snow melts with the sun’s hot beams.” – Henry VI, Part II

I know it’s been crazy in Alaska with snowfall topping 318 inches in some areas (!), but here in St. Louis we’ve barely had any winter at all.  There is a tiny skiff of snow out there right now, but I hear that’s going to burn off this weekend with temperatures getting into the fifties on Sunday!  In the middle of January!  What is going on?!?

The Iraq War

December 22nd, 2011 → 7:18 am

“The end of war’s uncertain.” – Coriolanus

I’m glad it’s over, that’s for sure.  Although I almost can’t quite believe it, we’ve been there so long.  A heartfelt wish to the people of Iraq that they can make a go of it without us.

Return

November 28th, 2011 → 6:49 am

“Knock, knock, knock.  Who’s there, i’th’ name of Belzebub?” – Macbeth

I’m back!  In the name of Belzebub or something else (something better, I hope).  I had an excellent conference and an even better vacation this past week.  I hope everyone else enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday as well.  I can’t wait to start writing more posts, so stay tuned!

Separation

November 18th, 2011 → 6:50 am

“Our separation so abides and flies
That thou residing here goes yet with me,
And I hence fleeing here remain with thee.” – Antony and Cleopatra

I’m going to have to take a break from the blog for the next week.  First I’m travelling for work, then it is Thanksgiving.  I hope everyone out there has a happy and fulfilling Thanksgiving holiday!  I’ll be away from the blog, but I’m sure still thinking about it…

H a l l o w e e n

October 31st, 2011 → 6:36 am

“‘Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.  Now could I drink hot blood,
And do such bitter business as the day
Would quake to look on.” – Hamlet

Happy Halloween everyone!!

2011 World Series – Game 5

October 25th, 2011 → 7:52 am

“I have a faint cold fear thrills through my veins
That almost freezes up the heat of life.” – Romeo and Juliet

Well, after that awesome 3rd game of the World Series where the Cards roared like thunder, they then subsequently lost the next two games.  It is now 2-3 in favor of the Rangers.  Watching the Cards lose last night sent a faint cold fear through my veins.  This is why I don’t normally watch sports – it’s too nerve-wracking!
