“Landlord of [Turkey] art thou now, not king.” – Richard II

The prime minister of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, seems to have let ten years in power get to his head.  He can not just do whatever he wants without any input from the people; at least, he can’t do it and still claim that he is leading a democracy.  The protestors have many valid points and he needs to listen to them.

Guest Post – Summer Scrooge

“Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines.” – Sonnet 18

Frank Bruni had a funny op-ed in the New York Times yesterday, railing against the scourge of summer (he used the above quote in his article).  He claimed that summer can be too hot, too buggy, and too joyfully demanding.  I happen to enjoy summer so I can’t quite sympathize, but if I were attacked by as many frightening bugs as he seems to be, I’d probably like it a little bit less too.

A Day at the Zoo

Exit, pursued by a bear.” – Winter’s Tale

They say it’s the most famous stage direction in all of theatre:  Exit, pursued by a bear.  It’s also how we left the zoo yesterday.  Our day began early in the morning with a toddler’s learning class, where my son got to pet a cockroach, a toad (which is not the same things as a frog, apparently), a snake, an owl, and a chinchilla.  Then we rode a train around the park.  Next we hiked it all around the park.  Finally, we had a graduation party to go to – where my son ate two pieces of cake and a piece of pie.  But before we could go home and rest and enjoy all our animal-themed loot, we just had to see the bears one more time.  The weather was so wonderful yesterday (not too hot, not too cold) that all the bears were out playing, grooming, and walking around; perfect for a little 2 year old boy to watch and enjoy.
