Spring Break is nearly over and I can’t believe it. I thought I’d get so much done! But with out-of-town conferences, parent-teacher meetings, and long lists of errands, all that seems to have happened is that the time disappeared. Where did the relaxation part go anyway? I think I look forward to Spring Break more than I ever actually enjoy it every year.

There was a story on NPR yesterday about a guy who bought a game console online, but then never received it. When he realized he’d been cheated he exacted revenge by texting 37 Shakespeare plays to the seller’s phone. It came to nearly 30,000 text messages. I like the joke, but my question is, did he type it all in himself?!?!

What is in a name? My mother (the psychologist) once told me that if someone repeatedly butchers your name (i.e. calling you Leah or Laya all the time, when your name is actually Lea), they’re taking a dig at you. One’s name is part of one’s identity, so disregarding it is in effect disregarding you. But what about when someone changes your name in a positive way? My son really grabbed on to the endearment “googly bear” from Monsters Inc., and he often asks me if I’m his googly bear. I love it! Batmom, Googly Bear, Mommypants. Change my name, please!

Even my mother-in-law, who never reads the newspaper and often has no idea what is going on in the world, is following the updates on the vanished Malaysian airplane. How can an entire airplane just disappear? It is both fascinating, and horrifying. My heart goes out to the families of the people that were on board.

Barack Obama was on the comedy podcast Between Two Ferns the other day. I don’t know about his performance, but I did spend an embarrassing amount of time at work yesterday (during lunch, of course!) watching a number of the other videos. Some were really funny!
