“I am not only witty in myself, but the cause that wit is in other men.” – Henry IV, Part II
This pompous line was said by Falstaff, a comedic, rotund character who regularly thought far too highly of himself (remember that “wit” often referred to intelligence in Shakespeare’s day). Who doesn’t think Newt Gingrich is a modern day Falstaff?

I think that may well be giving ol’ Newt too much credit. He certainly thinks more highly of himself than I do, but I think Shakespeare limited Falstaff’s personality to the realm of probable, while Newt’s arrogance is almost befuddling at times and the rest of his personal traits seem far less palatable.
